silence

An excerpt from Stargirl (one of my favourite parts):

“It’s really hard to do nothing totally. Even just sitting here, like this, our bodies are churning, our minds are chattering. There’s a whole commotion going on inside us.”
“Thats bad?” I said.
“It’s bad if we want to know what’s going on outside ourselves.”
“Don’t we have eyes and ears for that?”
She nodded. “They’re okay most of the time. But sometimes they just get in the way. The earth is speaking to us, but we can’t hear because of all the racket our senses are making.. Sometimes we need to erase them, erase our senses. Then – maybe – the earth will touch us. The universe will speak. The stars will whisper…
“Sometimes I try to erase myself…the hard part is erasing my senses – my eyes, my ears, my nose, my tongue. And last to go is my brain. My thoughts, memories, all the voices inside my head. That’s the hardest, erasing my thoughts.”

Now I know why so many people I know love this book. (:

the loudest noises don’t come from clubs, parties and construction. the loudest noises are often, our thoughts.

sometimes we need silence from the external to realise how noisy we are on the inside.

My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. – Psalm 62:5

the omnipresence of God cannot be confused with the manifested presence of God. there are seasons where we have to understand that God desires more that we trust Him, than feel Him. silence doesn’t indicate absence, but silence reveals the level of trust.

during the days we don’t hear directly, we simply do what we know in our heart to be right. this season, maybe it’s not what I should do, but more of what I ought to become.

prepare me now to be able to do what You want me to in the future. let me have the ability & anointing, the capacity & character, to be the daughter that You have made me to be.

take all of me, while I wait for You in the silence.
